Getting Started With Fermenting & Sourdough Recipes…
If you’re new to fermenting and sourdough making, it may seem intimidating at first, but with the right tools and ingredients, anyone can start creating their own flavorful fermented foods & sourdough bread. The first step is to gather the necessary equipment.
For vegetable fermentation, there are 2 pieces of equipment you must have when starting out. First, you will need a fermenting vessel such as a glass jar or crock. Secondly, fermenting weights are essential for food safety in order to keep the vegetables fully submerged in the brine. Other equipment can follow as you learn & grow, but those two items are a must!
When it comes to making sourdough bread, there are two pieces of equipment I highly recommend. First, a digital scale is incredibly useful for measuring the sourdough ingredients for both bread or a starter. Secondly, a Dutch oven will simply make the most incredible sourdough bread. It’s worth the one-time investment that will last a lifetime. Of course like with fermenting vegetables, there is more gear that can follow as you learn & grow.
